at Charles R. Wood Theater
ATF Box Office now open at the Wood Theater 12-6pm MON-SAT.
The Adirondack Theatre Festival’s twelfth season of new and contemporary
professional theater will conclude with A NUMBER, by Caryl Churchill,
July 19-29 at the Charles R. Wood Theatre in Downtown Glens Falls.
Tickets are $27 and can be ordered by calling 518-798-9663. NOTE: The
July 19 performance is a preview. Press are invited to attend any
performance beginning July 20.
A NUMBER, a mysterious drama from British playwright Caryl Churchill,
was one of the highlights of last year’s Off-Broadway season. A NUMBER
takes on the subject of human cloning in this concise, brilliant play
about a father and son. Churchill is the celebrated author of TOP GIRLS,
CLOUD NINE, SERIOUS MONEY, and MAD FOREST, and ATF is pleased to produce
the first production of A NUMBER in our region. “I worked with Caryl
Churchill on the New York production of MAD FOREST”, says Banta, “ and I
have always wanted to do one of her plays at ATF.” This play deals with
the subject of human cloning and a father and son, or, as the title
suggests, a number of sons. Sturgis Warner will direct.
Opening July 20 (preview July 19) A NUMBER features a talented cast of
two actors: David Barlow and Robert Lavelle. David has recently
performed in HORIZON, is a member of the Mad Dog Company with whom he
co-created TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN and STRANGE ATTRACTIONS. He can be
seen in August at the New York Fringe Festival in PERFECT HARMONY.
Robert has appeared on Broadway in SALOME with Al Pacino and Marisa
Tomei, SLY FOX with Richard Dreyfuss and Eric Stoltz and several off-broadway
productions such as ON GOLDEN POND, TWO ROOMS, and THE MAN WITH THE
FLOWER IN HIS MOUTH.
Returning for his second year is Darron West, as sound designer whose
soundscapes have been heard in over three hundred and fifty productions
both nationally and internationally. ATF welcomes Ben Stanton, lighting
designer; James Wolk as set designer; and Isabel Rubio as costume
designer.
July 26 will feature two special events before and after the
performance. There will be a wine tasting at 7:00pm themed to the
evening’s show and hosted by New York Wine Cork, ATF’s neighbors in the
Charles Wood Theater. Then after the performance there will be a special
post-show discussion focusing on the play’s bio-ethical issues with
professor Michael Fortun from RPI’s Department of Science and Technology
Studies.
As well, for the first time ATF will offer day-of-show student rush
tickets for just $9, available to anyone 23 or under with valid ID,
subject to availability.
The Adirondack Theatre Festival’s 12th season will run June 21 – July 29
at the Charles R. Wood Theater, 207 Glen St. in downtown Glens Falls.
