ATF’s 11th season to conclude with return of actress Mary Beth Peil in drama MADAGASCAR.

Larry Pine and Sherri Parker Lee complete cast of award-winning new play.

The Adirondack Theatre Festival completes its’ eleventh season with its final offering the award winning drama MADAGASCAR by J.T. Rogers, July 20-30 at the Charles R. Wood Theater in Downtown Glens Falls. When Paul disappears, he forever changes the lives of Lillian, June, and Nathan. At three different periods of time each loved one finds him or herself alone in the same hotel room in Rome, struggling to put together the pieces of his vanishing, while recalling the memories of the past. While Paul is the one missing, it is those he left behind who are struggling to survive and asking themselves, “why does someone choose to leave?”

MADAGASCAR received the 2005 Pinter Review Prize for Drama, and will be published this fall in hardback through the Pinter Review and the University of Tampa Press. The play also won the American Theatre Critics Association’s 2004 M. Elizabeth Osborne Award and was a finalist for the ATCA’s Steinberg New Play Award. ATF’s production of MADAGASCAR comes to Glens Falls after being part of the Off-Broadway Summer Play Festival in New York City, July 12-16. Rogers is the author of WHITE PEOPLE (L.A. Drama Critics Circle and Barrymore Award nominees for best play of the year), SEEING THE ELEPHANT (Kesselring Prize nominee for best new American play), and MURMURING IN A DEAD TOUNGE, which was presented last season in NYC by Epic Rep.

MADAGASCAR unites the talents of veteran actors, Mary Beth Peil, Larry Pine, and Sherri Parker Lee. Audience members will remember Mary Beth Peil from her 2000 appearance as Vivian in ATF’s production of WIT. She has also appeared on Broadway in NINE and the KING AND I for which she was nominated for a Tony. Television and film credits include Dawson’s Creek as Grams as well as The Stepford Wives, and The Reagans. Larry Pine, playing Nathan, comes to ATF after recent appearances in Empire Falls, Woody Allen’s Melinda and Melinda, Door in the Floor, Maid in Manhattan, Royal Tenenbaums, and The Shipping News, as well as on Broadway in THE SEAGULL, END OF THE WORLD, Roy Cohn in ANGELS IN AMERICA, and BUS STOP. Sherri Parker Lee, playing June, was recently seen on Broadway in Tennessee Williams' NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES and has appeared Off-Broadway in DON JUAN, BURNING BLUE, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, and LEMONADE.
Directing MADAGASCAR is Gus Reyes, the co-founder/ Producing Artistic Director of Next Stage, a NYC-based performing arts company, where he has produced and or directed over 200 shows. In NYC he’s directed work at Manhattan Theatre Club, Manhattan Class Company, the Underwood Theatre and Epic Rep. Returning to ATF are Eric Renschler, scenic designer, Sue Slack costume designer, and Les Dickert lighting designer. ATF welcomes for the first time sound designer Darron L. West.
