THEATRE FESTIVAL APPOINTS NEW OFFICERS FOR 2004

FIRST FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE HIRED
AS ATF GENERAL MANAGER

As the Adirondack Theatre Festival enters its 10th season, the Board of Directors has recently appointed new officers for the 2004 year. David J. King, the General Manager of the Lake George RV Park and a Founder of ATF, will serve a two year term as Board President for 2004 and 2005. This is the first time that the Board President position has been separated from ATF Producing Director David Turner, who has held the positions concurrently since the Festival’s founding in 1994. Board members Kathy Reed of Glens Falls and Patty Malone Kircher of Queensbury will serve one year terms as Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.

The region’s professional summer theater has recently hired its first full time year-round staff member, Lisa Janssen, to be General Manager. Lisa, a New Jersey native, has an education and theatre background. She received her undergraduate degree from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. After teaching in a classroom for four years, she had the opportunity to tutor child actors for Broadway shows in NYC and on tour including ANNIE, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR, and the film “Unfaithful.” Janssen states, “It was like a one room schoolhouse. Besides teaching I also had to work as the ‘wrangler’ on each show, preparing the kids for the performance, guiding them on stage, checking their make-up and costumes, and making sure they didn’t collide with other actors or the scenery”.

Janssen met her husband Dan, a former Technical Director for ATF and Carpenter for Adirondack Scenic Inc., on the National Tour of ANNIE and together they moved to Diamond Point where they now reside. She has taught at North Warren Central School for two years while obtaining her masters degree in Education from Plattsburgh State University and for the past two summers was the office manager for Camp Echo Lake in Warrensburg.

“ATF has had to postpone so many organizational needs for the last several years while we concentrated on helping get a theater built in Glens Falls” says Board President David King. “But last summer we were stretched to the breaking point, and it was clear we couldn’t run this organization, which has grown so fast in its first decade, with no year-round staff. Lisa’s experience in the Theater, Education and our region make her a great addition to ATF and we look forward to our audience and community getting to know her.”

The Adirondack Theatre Festival’s tenth season will run June 17 – July 31 at the new Charles R. Wood Theater on Glen Street in Downtown Glens Falls. Discount season subscriptions will go on sale in early April. To join the Festival’s mailing list and be among the first to receive a season brochure call 798-7479 or go to www.ATFestival.org.
