FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…June 4, 2001

Adirondack Theatre Festival opens June 21
with Tony award winning comedy ART
set among the paintings of
Glens Falls' Hyde Collection

ATF veterans Tyrone Henderson (Wit - 2000)
and Oliver Wadsworth (The Deal - 1997)
joined by Kirk Jackson in three person Broadway comedy
directed by ATF Artistic Director Martha Banta.

The 2001 Adirondack Theatre Festival will open Thursday, June 21 with the comedy ART by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton. Mark Setlock, previously announced for the cast pf this production, had to bow out due to being cast in a major motion picture.

ART is a comedy which looks at the friendship of three men who must re-examine their relationship to each other and to the world when one buys an expensive modern painting. The play premiered in Paris in 1997 and went on to record-breaking runs on Broadway and in London's West End where it is still playing.

"I'm really excited about doing this play at The Hyde" says Martha Banta who is currently rehearsing ART in New York City. "I think that this play will resonate so much with the audience as they walk past examples of fine art both before and after the play. We're having a great time in rehearsal - these three guys are hilarious!" Previous ATF productions directed by Banta have included WIT, THREE TALL WOMEN, and BARBARA'S BLUE KITCHEN.

Besides ATF's WIT, Tyrone Henderson has previously appeared in the National Tour of BRING IN THE NOISE, BRING IN THE FUNK and this past winter appeared in BLUES FOR AN ALABAMA SKY at Syracuse Stage. Oliver Wadsworth's recent credits include THE EMMA GOLDMAN PROJECT at New York Theatre Workshop and BETTY'S SUMMER VACATION at The Studio Theater. Kirk Jackson has appeared in LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! On Broadway and the world premiere of QUILLS at New York Theater Workshop which was recently made into an Academy Award-nominated film.

The design team for ART will be Eric Renschler (previously TIMES OF WAR and WIT at ATF) designing the set, Neal Kerr designing lights, and Susan Slack (nine previous shows for ATF) designing costumes.

As an added bonus for ATF subscribers, the Festival's annual new play reading will be Tyrone Henderson's one-man adaptation of the short stories of novelist Richard Wright (NATIVE SON). Based on the stories in Wright's 8 MEN, Henderson's solo performance is titled AT HOME IN AN ALIEN LAND. Reading date and location is currently TBA.

ART is being presented at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren St. in Glens Falls: June 20 - 24 and 26 - 30 at 8pm. July 1 at 3pm.
