THE UNEXPECETED MAN,
a play by Tony Award winning author Yasmina Reza.

Play set to run at Adirondack Scenic Building,
20 Elm St. in downtown Glens Falls, July 17-27.

The Adirondack Theatre Festival’s “Theater in All Directions” season continues with UNEXPECTED MAN, a play by the Tony Award winning author of “ART” seen at ATF 2001, Yasmina Reza. ATF will present the show on the second floor of the Adirondack Scenic Building in downtown Glens Falls in an environmental production where the audience will experience yet another a new and unusual space for theatre.  The production runs July 17-26 at 8pm and July 27 at 3pm.  Tickets are $22 and can be ordered by calling 518-798-7479. THE UNEXPECTED MAN tells the story of two strangers that meet on a train trip from Paris to Frankfurt. One is a famous author, the other a great admirer of his. THE UNEXPECTED MAN follows the inner monologues of a woman attempting to gain courage to speak to her favorite author. This subtle and touching work turns a train trip into an adventure of the mind with “elegance and wit” according to the New York Times.

THE UNEXPECTED MAN is directed by Jason B. Cohen, the Artistic Director of the Naked Eye Theatre Company in Chicago. His work has been seen all over the Midwest including the World Premiere of CANNIBALS, HANNAH AND MARTIN, and the Midwest Premiere of NOCTURNE (as seen at ATF 2001).

THE UNEXPECTED MAN’s two person cast includes Jordan Charney as “the man,” who stage appearances include MOVING PICTURE at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and as Tevye in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Audiences may remember Charney from his frequent television appearances on Law & Order, and reruns of Three’s Company (Mr. Angelino.) Film credits include Ghostbusters, Network and the soon to be released Linda. Starring opposite of Charney is Peggy Scoot as “the woman.” Scott has been seen across the country on stages such as The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, American Theatre Company, Deleware Theatre Company, and Shakespeare in Santa Fe. Scott also has toured nationally and internationally with the National Theatre of the Deaf. Film and television credits include Newhart, Cagney & Lacey, The Edge of the Night, and Sesame Street.

Luke Hegal-Cantarella makes his ATF debut with THE UNEXPECTED MAN as the scenic designer. Hegal-Cantarella’s recent include THE LAST FIVE YEARS, DINNER WITH FRIENDS, and the upcoming LOBBY HERO. He is also the recipient of the Donald S. Oenslager Prize for Excellence in Set Design.  Neal Kerr serves as the Lighting Designer whose past ATF credits include FISHWRAP…YESTERDAY’s NEWS, TOMORROW’S SONGS, and ART. Kerr also has served as ATF’s Production Manager and Master Election for the past four seasons. Making his ATF debut as Costume Designer is Randall E. Klein. Klein has designed costumes for regional theatres up and down the East Coast including, Capital Repertory Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Studio Arena Theatre, and Pirate Playhouse in Sanibel Island, Flordia. Klein has also created costumes for Busta Rhymes, P Diddy, Missy Elliot, Macy Gray, and Ricky Martin’s dancers for the 1999 MTV Awards. Completing the UNEXPECTED MAN design team is Ryan Rumery as Sound Designer/ Orginal Music. Rumery’s recent designs include THREE DAY’S OF RAIN at the Kitchen Theatre, THE MISER at Syracuse Stage, and THE TRUTH ABOUT DINOSAURS at the Alliance Theatre. 

The Adirondack Theatre Festival’s ninth season will run June18 – July 27, at venues throughout the Glens Falls/Lake George region. Tickets for THE UNEXPECTED MAN are $22.
