FESTIVAL STAFF:

Martha Banta (Artistic Director) has directed five world premieres at the Adirondack Theatre Festival, as well as many other productions such as WIT, ART, and THREE TALL WOMEN. Martha was the Artistic Associate at New York Theatre Workshop for five years, and has also served on the production staff of New York City Opera. She was the assistant director of RENT in NYC, the US tours and London, and directed the first foreign language production of RENT in Japan and then later in Germany. She is currently the ongoing resident director for MAMMA MIA on Broadway and on tour in the US.  She just recently directed BLUE WINDOW at the Julliard School.  This year’s regional directing work included HALLOWED GROUND by Laura Harrington at Portland Stage Company in Maine, BARBARA’S BLUE KITCHEN by Lori Fischer at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, which was originally produced at the Adirondack Theatre Festival, FULLY COMMITTED by Becky Mode  at Capital Repertory in Albany, NY, and WOMEN WHO STEAL by Carter Lewis at Merrimack Rep in Massachusetts. She currently  has the “show” PLAYHOUSE DISNEY LIVE running at Disney’s MGM Studios in Orlando.  She has been a guest teacher at NYU, Stony Brook University,  and Vassar.  Some New York directing credits include new plays at The Clark Theater at Lincoln Center, New York Theatre Workshop, New Georges, Soho Rep, Ensemble Studio Theater, One Dream Theater, The Westbank Café, Columbia University, Tiny Mythic, Orange Thoughts, and the 52nd Street Project.  In addition she has worked developing and directing new plays for The Public Theatre, The York Theatre, ASCAP, NYTW, La Mama, EST, Syracuse Stage & New Georges.

David Turner (Producing Director) has worked in all areas of theatre production and management for the New York Shakespeare Festival, Circle Repertory Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, Spoleto Festival USA and the National Playwrights Conference. He has served in management for the Broadway productions of A CHORUS LINE, OUR COUNTRY’S GOOD, A SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, SHOW BOAT, and BARRYMORE and Off-Broadway including NUNSENSE, THE DESTINY OF ME, SYLVIA, and VISITING MR. GREEN.  He was a  General Manager of the New York, Boston, and Chicago productions of I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE, and was an Associate Producer of the New York production of FULLY COMMITTED which originated at ATF in 1998. In 2000 and 2001 he was the interim Executive Director of the Woolworth Theater Project during which he oversaw the raising of over $2 million towards that Capital Campaign in Glens Falls.  Besides his work on ATF, he is currently working on his own projects for Theater Production Group in New York City.

Neal M. Kerr (Production Manager) Neal is pleased to be spending his fourth summer with ATF in 2003. Neal’s past designs for ATF include: Fishwrap…Yesterday’s News, Tomorrows Songs (2002), and Art (2001). Neal has worked all over the US as a lighting designer, production manager, technical director. He has a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Central Oklahoma, and an M.F.A. in Lighting Design from the University of Arizona.

Marbree D. Sullivan (General Manager) Marbree comes to her third season at ATF after leaving her post at Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City.  While serving as the Company Representative at MTC she found time to produce WORKS IN THE WORKS and direct WALKING THE MAZE for The Working Group.  She has worked for the Cherry Lane, the Museum of the City of New York, and amongst other things has managed travel agents for Council Travel.  She holds a BFA from NYU and will be starting law school in Boston this fall.

Elizabeth Cassidy (Management Associate) is a native of Glens Falls with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from SUNY Plattsburgh.  This is Liz's fourth year working with the Festival and second as a management associate.  Liz works full time at Scoville Jewelers as a Marketing & Administrative Specialist. 

Jodie Davidson (Management Associate) This is Jodie's second year with ATF.  Presently, she is a full time mom, part time Management Associate and thanks her stars that ATF has given her the incredible opportunity to be out of the full time work force yet still very much active in the professional community.

Sarah Althea Moses (Technical Director) Ms. Moses is pleased to return to ATF for her third season. Most recently she has been working at a variety of theatres in Austin, TX including Zachary Scott Theatre, The State Theatre, The Performing Arts Center, and The Scottish Rite Theatre. In August she will be moving to Tucson to finish pursuing an MFA in Technical Direction. She wishes to thank Ken and everyone at ASI for their help, as well as her family.

Jonathan Givens (Master Electrician)Returning for a second season, Jonathan is very happy to be back up in the Adirondacks. After completing the 2000 season for ATF, he moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he served as Technical Director / Resident Scenic Designer / Production Manager for Stagebrush Theatre. Jonathan is also the owner of Allajack Productions, a theatrical design and fabrication firm. Many thanks to Dave and Martha for the opportunity to return to the festival.

Glenn J. Sturgis (Company Manager) Glenn is excited to be returning to the festival this year for his second season, last summer he joined us as a production intern. Since last summer Glenn has received his BA from UMASS Amherst and now he looks forward to pursuing his MFA in Stage Management at Yale this fall. Previously he has worked with New World Theater (Amherst,MA), The Majestic Theater (Springfield,MA), and Walt Disney World. Glenn would like to thank Dave, Martha and everyone at the festival that makes the Glens Falls area such a great place to spend the summer.

Pennie Fike (Box Office Manager) Pennie is delighted to be returning for a second year at ATF. She is currently entering her junior year at Pace University with a major in Theatre and Business Management. Pennie would like to extend her gratitude to David and Martha for inspiring the magic and the entire festival for their heart and dedication.

Brooke Brod (Artistic Associate) is a director based in New York City.  Recent projects include: ONE GOOD BEATING (American Premier), Drama League DirectorFest; THE KINGDOM OF LOST SONGS, Lincoln Center Theatre Director’s Lab; STILL MARIE, McCarter Theatre Lab Series and THE GUT GIRLS, MARISOL & BLIND HORSES at the University of Texas at Austin. She recently completed a season as an Assistant Director/Producer at the McCarter Theatre where she worked with Emily Mann, Loretta Greco, Stephen Wadsworth and Blanka Zizka. She just returned from assisting Susan V. Booth on the American premiere of FRAME 312 by Keith Reddin at the Alliance Theatre. She has a BFA from NYU and an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a Drama League Fellow in the Fall Production Program in 2002.

Tiffany Smeal (Props Coordinator) Tiffany is pleased to be joining the ATF family for the first time this season. She graduated from Lock Haven University of PA with a degree in Theatre and has worked as props designer for summer stock last year at Millbrook Playhouse. Past shows include GODSPELL; I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE; LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS; and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

Clarissa Smith (Assistant Technical Director) Clarissa is excited to be in the Adirondacks after spending part of the year in New York and New Jersey. She has worked at Surflight Theatre, West Virginia Public Theatre and Gateway Playhouse. She toured around the US and Canada with TITANIC and CRAZY FOR YOU.

Brett Harrington (Wardrobe Supervisor) Brett is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Theater Arts. She began her career as a stylist for film and commercial photography in NYC in 1984. Later she worked for three years as a wardrobe supervisor at CBS for the daytime television drama As The World Turns. In 1992 Brett worked on Broadway as a dresser for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT until the show went on the road. Brett and husband moved to Glens Falls in 1994, and she has been involved in the local arts community ever since. For the last four years she has been on the board of the Adirondack Repertory Dance Theatre with the last two years as President of the board. Brett is an at-home-sometimes Mom of two and is very excited to be joining the ATF team again this year!!


David and Martha are joined by several of ATF's other co-founders such as David Gunderman, Gilles Chiasson, Kate Broderick, David King, and Matthew Frey who are active in making the Festival happen each year, including fundraising, artistic staffing, and overseeing the hiring of interns for each summer:


Gilles Chiasson Broadway: THE CIVIL WAR (Original Cast, Bill, Outer Critics Circle Nomination), THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL (Original Cast, Armand St. Just), RENT (Original Cast, Steve...). National tours: LES MISERABLES (Marius), FOREVER PLAID (Jinx). Off Broadway: GROUNDHOG (Manhattan Theatre Club), RENT (New York Theatre Workshop, Obie Award). Regional: Goodspeed Opera House, Theatre Virginia, Cherry County Playhouse, Tennessee Rep., Weston Playhouse. Songwriter: HAPPY HOLIDAYS (Pasadena Playhouse). Television: AS THE WORLD TURNS. Education: University of Michigan, B.F.A.; O’Neill Theatre Center’s National Theatre Institute. As a writer, Gilles is featured in the musical HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS (Pasadena Playhouse) and in his own musical, CHRYSALIS, which he is currently working on. In New York, Gilles studies acting at the Sally Johnson Studio and voice with Steve Sweetland.

Matthew Frey Most recently designed Dael Orlandersmith’s THE GIMMICK at New York Theatre Workshop and AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER at The Long Wharf. Some of the shows Matt has designed for the Adirondack Theatre Festival are THE DEAL, LUCKY STIFF, THREE TALL WOMEN, & JOHN & JEN. He also designed Steve Reich and Beryl Korot’s THE CAVE in Irvine, CA and Tokyo as well as HINDENBERG at the BAM Next Wave Festival and Spoleto Festival USA. Opera credits include THE DAMNATION OF FAUST for BAM and the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, and MADAME BUTTERFLY, TALES OF HOFFMAN, and the American premeire of LIGEIA at the Aspen Opera Theatre Center. Matthew has also worked at Center Stage, The Shakespeare Theatre, Dallas Theatre Center, The McCarter Theatrer, WPA Theatre, Great Lakes Theatre Festival, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Playmaker’s Rep., Capital Rep, Yale Rep, The Acting Company, and Theatre for a New Audience.

Kate Broderick is currently the PSM for The Bomb-itty of Errors. She recently was the ASM for Voices in the Dark, starring Judith Ivey at the Longacre Theatre. Other Production Stage Management credits include Communicating Doors at the Variety Arts, Over The River and Through the Woods at the John Houseman Theatre, Bunny Bunny at the Lucille Lortel, Claudia Shear's Blown Sideways Through Life at the Cherry Lane Theatre, the Obie Award Winning Quills, and Andre Gregory's Uncle Vanya. Kate is a New York Theatre Workshop Usual Suspect.
