ATF produces a nine-week summer season of theatre with professional artists from New York City and across the country; and a one-weekend fall film festival.

Summer Theatre Internships

ATF’s professional internship program offers intense, hands-on educational opportunities for current students and early career professionals seeking an introduction to the professional theatre. Our goal is to provide interns with practical experience in the shops, rehearsal rooms, backstage, and in the front office as well as valuable networking opportunities with theatre professionals.

Internships are available in the following departments:

Artistic: literary, casting, creative producing

Management: IT, office management, fundraising

Artist Support: company management, special events

Marketing: digital content, print content, social media, audience services/house management

Production Assistants: assistant stage management, backstage crew

In addition to the departments above, interns may have the opportunity to audition for chorus roles in the summer season. These opportunities vary depending on season selection, rehearsal/performance scheduling, and various other considerations.

Please note: while interns are assigned specific departments and mentors, they are also expected to learn and work outside their chosen area of expertise. We hope to provide the intern with a well-rounded experience designed to inform them of all the various jobs required to mount a professional production.

Compensation

Interns may opt to receive either college course credit or a weekly stipend. Internships are typically full-time commitments which are scheduled according to the rules of Actors Equity Association. However, it is sometimes possible to balance an internship with a summer class or a part-time job. Applicants should specify any potential scheduling conflicts in their application. ATF strives to make its internship program accessible to all qualified candidates.
